Perplexity intends to acquire Google Chrome for 34.5 billion USD

The U.S.-based AI search startup Perplexity plans to acquire the Google Chrome browser for $34.5 billion in an all-cash deal. The acquisition is driven by growth anxiety in the AI search sector, as traditional browsers remain a key source of traffic. Perplexity has pledged that, if the acquisition succeeds, it will invest $3 billion to maintain Chrome as an open-source project and retain its default search engine.
