Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains how ALTools (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit altools.ai and use our free browser-based video and audio tools (the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Official Language: The English version of this Privacy Policy is the official and controlling version. If any translated version conflicts with or differs from the English version, the English version shall prevail.

1. Who We Are

ALTools provides online utilities that run primarily in your web browser on your device. Our tools are designed so that your media files are processed locally whenever technically possible, without uploading them to our servers for routine tool operations.

For privacy-related questions, contact us at [email protected].

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • The ALTools website and web applications
  • All tools offered on the site (video editing, conversion, compression, subtitle utilities, YouTube helpers, screen recording, and related features)

This policy does not cover third-party websites, apps, or services that you may access through links on our site. Those services have their own privacy policies.

3. Information We Do Not Collect for Core Tool Operations

For most ALTools features:

  • We do not require you to create an account
  • We do not upload your video, audio, image, or subtitle source files to our servers to perform standard processing
  • Processing happens on your device using standard browser technologies
  • Output files are generated locally and downloaded or saved through your browser — we do not retain copies on our servers

Important: Because processing occurs on your device, you are responsible for securing your own computer, browser, and network environment.

4. Information We May Collect

Even though we do not receive your media files for core processing, we may still collect limited technical and usage information:

4.1 Automatically Collected Data

When you visit the Service, our hosting infrastructure or analytics tools (if enabled) may automatically log:

  • IP address (often truncated or anonymized depending on configuration)
  • Browser type, version, and language
  • Operating system and device type
  • Pages visited, referring URL, and approximate access times
  • Error logs and performance metrics needed to keep the Service reliable

We use this information to operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service — not to sell your personal data.

4.2 Cookies and Local Storage

We and our service providers may use:

  • Essential cookies / local storage — for example, to remember your theme preference (light/dark mode) or language choice
  • Analytics cookies (if enabled) — to understand aggregate traffic patterns
  • Advertising cookies — Google AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, measure ad performance, and (where permitted by law) show ads that may be more relevant based on your visits to this site and other sites

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential storage may affect certain preferences but should not prevent core on-device tool use. See Section 10 for choices related to personalized advertising.

4.3 Information You Voluntarily Provide

If you contact us by email or feedback form, we receive the information you choose to send (such as your email address, message content, browser version, or tool name). We use this solely to respond and improve the Service.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information unless you voluntarily include it in a support message.

5. On-Device Processing & Browser Permissions

Some tools may request browser permissions, such as:

  • Access to files you explicitly select
  • Microphone or screen capture (for screen recording features)
  • Clipboard access (only when you initiate a copy action)

Permissions are used only to provide the feature you requested. Media accessed through these permissions is handled locally unless you separately choose to share it outside the Service.

6. Third-Party Services

We may rely on third parties to deliver the Service, including:

  • Hosting and content delivery providers
  • Google Fonts (loaded from Google servers when you visit the site — your browser may send your IP address to Google)
  • Google Analytics — to measure aggregate traffic and usage patterns under Google's Privacy Policy
  • Google AdSense — to display advertisements on the site. When you visit the Service, Google may collect and use data obtained through our integration with Google advertising products—including your IP address, cookies, and similar signals—to serve and measure ads, identify devices (including under IAB Europe's Transparency and Consent Framework, Purpose 3: create a personalized ads profile from automatically transmitted information), and, where permitted by law and with your consent when required, deliver personalized advertising based on your activity on this site and other sites. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we use Google's privacy and consent messaging on the site to collect your choices about cookies and personalized ads where the law requires it. For a clear overview of how Google processes end-user data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. For cookie-specific details, see How Google uses cookies in advertising

We select providers that help us operate the Service but do not control their practices entirely. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of relevant third parties.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

7. YouTube & External Content Tools

Certain tools may help you work with publicly available YouTube metadata or thumbnails (for example, title analysis or thumbnail preview). These features:

  • Operate on URLs, text, or images you provide
  • Do not grant us ownership of your content
  • May cause your browser to request resources from third-party domains (such as YouTube or image CDNs) according to normal web behavior

We are not affiliated with YouTube unless explicitly stated on a specific page. Our use of Google advertising, analytics, or font services does not imply endorsement by Google.

8. Data Retention

  • Media files: Not retained on our servers for standard on-device tool workflows
  • Server logs: Retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, and legal compliance, then deleted or aggregated
  • Support emails: Retained as long as needed to handle your request and maintain records of communication

9. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the limited data we handle. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Because your files remain on your device during processing, you should also use up-to-date browsers, avoid untrusted extensions, and maintain backups of important media.

10. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of certain data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your request.

You can also:

  • Use the privacy and consent message shown on the site (where available) to manage cookies and personalized advertising preferences
  • Clear cookies and site data in your browser
  • Manage or turn off personalized ads from Google at Google Ad Settings
  • Opt out of personalized ads from participating companies at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU), where available
  • Disable non-essential analytics via browser controls (where applicable)

11. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

12. International Users

ALTools may be accessed from many countries. If you use the Service from outside your home jurisdiction, your information may be processed in countries that may have different data protection laws. By using the Service, you understand that information may be transferred and processed as described in this policy.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be highlighted on the website. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
