OpenAI Adjusts Its Corporate Structure to Promote the Democratization of AGI

OpenAI has announced a restructuring of its organization: the non-profit entity will continue to control the for-profit arm, which will be transformed into a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). This transition aims to simplify the capital structure, with the non-profit becoming a key shareholder of the PBC to ensure that AI technology benefits all of humanity. OpenAI stated that the current “capped-profit” model is no longer suitable, as multiple companies now coexist in the AGI space. The organization has decided to adopt a more conventional equity structure. Nevertheless, its mission remains unchanged — to democratize AGI and ensure its benefits serve broader communities.
