GPT-5 Is Coming: A New Leap in AI Evolution
OpenAI plans to release GPT-5, its latest generation large language model, in August 2025. CEO Sam Altman stated in a podcast that GPT-5 has the ability to answer complex questions, even surpassing his own understanding. This version will include a standard edition, a mini edition, and a nano edition available via API, aiming to lower the barrier to entry. GPT-5 will integrate the reasoning capabilities of the “o” series, marking an important step toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). However, Altman emphasized that GPT-5 will not reach AGI level in the short term, and that OpenAI’s partnership with Microsoft is still under renegotiation. Additionally, before the release of GPT-5, OpenAI plans to launch an open-source language model, expected to go live by the end of July.
