The era of autonomous general – purpose scientists is coming

The future of scientific research is set to usher in the era of Autonomous General Scientists (AGS). By integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technologies, AGS can achieve full – process automation from literature review, experimental operations to paper writing.

This transformation not only breaks through the physical and knowledge limitations of human scientific research but also has the potential to accelerate scientific discoveries and change the paradigm of scientific research. Currently, most AI scientists exist in the form of agents and mainly focus on the virtual domain, lacking the ability to conduct physical experiments. In contrast, AGS combines the cognitive capabilities of AI with the operational capabilities of robots, forming a system that can autonomously manage the entire life cycle of graduate – level research.

This system encompasses modules such as literature review, proposal generation, experiment execution, paper preparation, and reflection and feedback, enabling highly efficient scientific research.
