Mistral has released a new open-source programming model called Devstral, which outperforms the DeepSeek suite and Qwen3 235B on software engineering tasks, despite having only 24 billion parameters. Impressively, Devstral can run on a single RTX 4090 GPU or a Mac with 32GB of memory. The model is designed to address the limitations of traditional large models in tackling real-world software engineering problems—particularly in understanding code context and identifying relationships between components within large codebases. Devstral delivered outstanding results on the SWE-Bench Verified benchmark, which is based on 500 real GitHub Issues, setting a new standard in the open-source domain. Furthermore, it is compatible with All Hands AI’s agent framework, enabling it to perform a variety of programmer tasks, with plans to further enhance its capabilities in the future.
