OpenAI’s acquisition of Windsurf has fallen through, as the company’s CEO and founder has been recruited by Google
OpenAI’s acquisition of AI coding assistant Windsurf has officially been called off. Google moved quickly, bringing Windsurf CEO Varun Mohan, co-founder Douglas Chen, and the core team into DeepMind. Google secured a non-exclusive license to Windsurf’s technology for approximately $2.4 billion. The original $3 billion acquisition deal has collapsed, Windsurf’s leadership has been reshuffled, and the business is now being run by an interim CEO.
